Garnatilla Fennel Stew

The Mayor of Motril, Luisa García Chamorro, as well as the ex-Mayor, Carlos Rojas, didn’t miss the opportunity to participate in Garnatilla Puchero de Hinojos event.

Garnatilla, as many will already know, is a hamlet dependency belonging to Motril; it’s on the road to Lujar from Puntalón.

The First Councillor for Garnatilla, Concepción Abarca hosted the fiesta together with the neighbourhood association, which is a yearly event. The hamlet has a population of 147, so the extra four politicians didn’t dent the puchero de hinojos supply too much.

On a serious note, everybody in the hamlet takes part in the preparation of this traditional fennel stew, which is a dish you should really try – especially the stuff that my mother-in-law makes!

The surprising and gratifying thing about this event is that although the population is not even 150 people, the Asociación de Vecinos de Garnatilla boasts 500 members, some of whom have emigrated to the other side of the world, but still make the effort to be present on the big day.
