Yes, there is somebody running for election with the name Hitler! Not in Europe, but in the small northeast Indian state of Meghalaya, where the population have a rather interesting fascination for weird, wonderful and sometimes downright outrageous names.

For example, there are 345 people running for this latest election and they include, Field Marshal Mawphniang, Romeo Rani, Kennedy Marak, Kennedy Cornelius Khyriem and even Jhim Carter Sangma… but of course, the name that stands out on the polling sheet is Hitler.

As it turns out, Hitler is a 54-year-old father of three and has already won three previous elections to the state assembly, without anyone raising so much as an eyebrow. Apparently, his father worked for the British army, but became fascinated with the dictator… but so much so, he decided to name his son Adolf Hitler. Oh dear.

Hitler held a press conference during which the foreign press brought us the subject of his name, “I am aware at one point in time Adolf Hitler was the most hated person on the planet because of the genocide of the Jews. But my father also gave me the middle name of ‘Lu’ in between my other names, so that means I am different,” he explained.

He went on to explain how his name had never even restricted his travel, “I have never had a problem obtaining a visa, but I have been asked many times at immigration desks why I have such a name… and I always explain that I didn’t have a role in my naming.” he said. His foreign trips have included the USA and Germany!

Well, what’s in a name, as they say. We are sure, that the name aside, he is a very nice gentleman and we wish him well in his quest for power… as long as it doesn’t involve any kind of invasion.
