According to an Almuñécar Town Hall, press release, Plaza Kelibia hasn’t undergone an integral revamping in 25 years, although it doesn’t seem longer than about ten years since the last time work was being carried out, changing the paving etc – perhaps memories play tricks.
Be that as it may, work is certainly underway now with the 1,000-sq/m area cleared and the square receiving a thick layer of concrete, not before the diggers came in and dug the trenches for the mains and sewage pipes, right down to Avenida de Andalucia.
There’s at least another two months of work ahead, so it will certainly last through Semana Santa, which should be fun.
The whole project has a budget of 180,000 euros, part financed by the Town Hall as far as surface work goes, and by the Mancomunidad, who are footing the cost of the sewage and water mains system below the surface.
