The Entierro del Chanquete on Sunday 10th February was the finishing note of this year’s Carnival in Nerja.
To the accompaniment of the Banda Municipal de Música de Nerja the funeral procession, comprising of hundreds of ‘mourners,’ reached the final resting place of the said Chanquete, which, in reality, was a brightly decorated aquarium. Fireworks were suitably ignited for the occasion.
Sunday had been a hectic day all round, starting off at noon for the first time with a fancy-dress competition for pets, which was a success. The winner was Pipo, cleverly disguised as Dios Mimo. The judges panel was made up of members from the Costa Animal Society.
