Almuñécar Distraction Theft

Thieves recently managed to steal a bag containing money and documents from a British resident of Jete, whilst he was in his vehicle parked in the Friday market car park.

With his wife shopping nearby, the man decided to park up in the car park and await her return. Shortly after parking his vehicle, another pulled up close-by with two male occupants. The driver wound down his window and asked for directions to the motorway. The Brit, trying to be helpful, left his vehicle, went over and explained to the men how to get to the A-7.

During the time he was out of his vehicle, an accomplice managed to sneak into his car and remove a bag from the passenger seat. It was only a few minutes after returning to his car and after the other vehicle was well on its way, that he noticed the theft and realised how it must have occurred.

This is becoming a frequent type of crime in our area, with all sorts of distractions are used to take your focus away from your valuables, from saying that there is a fault at the rear of your car, to convincing you that something has been spilled on your back. So, be aware folks and remember, if it doesn’t quite feel right… it very probably isn’t!
