International Club of Salobreña

Hello Everybody,
We were blessed with a fine Trip last Wed to Nature’s sculpted Park: El Torcal. It’s difficult to describe and Michel Kohli does it proud in his photographic account which I’ll forward to you.

Antequera was a surprise for many of us with its 35 churches and convents and a history running from the Bronze, Roman and Arab ages up to the present prosperous Andaluz Distribution location. We think it would be well worth a Spring visit to see the 2,500-year-old Dolmens and have a guided Historical and Architectural visit of Antequera itself.

We finished the evening with a visit to El Lobo Park: This is privately run and financed by an enterprising foreign couple. Their wolves all originated in Zoos and their present conditions resemble, as far as possible, The State of the Wild.

We had a super guide who spoke perfect english but only on the way out did Joan de Neve learn the real story by speaking with the guide in her native dutch: The sad reality is they are on the brink of bankruptcy.

September’s rains caused havoc and tourist cancellations. The local Ayto. is so short-sighted it does not support this tourist-attraction. I will forward you Joan’s e-mail if you’d like further information. Joan will also be on Diana’s walk at Velez on Wednesday.

I’d like to say a big thanks to Irene Miller for all her phone-calls and e-mails in order to arrange this trip and her kindness in specially visiting the Antequera Tourist Office to express the Club’s appreciation.

Wed. 28th: Walk led by Diana Porter, meeting at 10:00 at Café Alhambra on old Granada rd. Full details in separate Newsflash.

Christmas Lunch Dec.12th at Hotel Salobreña: Please cooperate and let us know if you plan on joining us for this Xmas event. The Room-SalaMotril is already booked but we need to know the number of members so as to plan the tables, the settings and of course the wine and meats (which the Club provides).

Jenny and Mike Comley have most kindly offered to use their catering talents and will cook the meats, organize little Gifts for everyone and also the Party Games ( Yes, you are allowed use your imagination!)

All Xmas-Lunch members are asked to contribute a dish to the buffet; if, you are coming straight from Málaga Airport…and unable to bring food, well then we charge 5€ which will probably go towards Raffle Prizes.

Please, it is urgent that you contact Irene Miller who has the list of names and the dishes: Irene email: irene.s.miller@googlemail.com.

Interesting observation:  As Man was born with 2 eyes, 2 ears and only 1 tongue, it must be because one should look and listen twice before speaking. – Marquesa de Sévigné
