We are all well aware of just how cruel humans can be towards animals, particularly pets, such as dog and cats. Well, what started as an extreme act of cruelty in Charlevill-Mezieres, in the north of France, turned into an incredible story of survival against all the odds.
It was Ethan, the Jack Russell terrier’s third birthday, and someone decided to celebrate this day by poisoning him and burying him alive. However, before you all get your tissues out for a good cry, you have to understand that Ethan had a rather different idea about the outcome of his birthday, and thanks to a passerby, a group of firefighters and a very dedicated veterinarian, the ‘done for dog’ was literally brought back from the dead.
Ethan’s grave was to be near a lake, next to a pedestrian path in the countryside. However, a walker spotted the earth moving and decided to dig down. Discovering the very poorly dog, he was unsure who to contact first, and eventually got through to the local fire station, who sent a unit out to assist the good samaritan.
The firefighters rushed the now lifeless dog to a local vet, Philippe Michon, who observed, “He was completely cold and barely breathing.”
Michon decided the important thing was to get some fluids and heat into the freezing little body and to that end he used hot water bottles to warm up the dog. However, trying to hydrate the little animal was a real challenge as his core temperature had dropped so low that his veins had collapsed. Due to Michon’s excellent skills and the quick thinking of the passerby combined with the speedy help of the fire service, incredibly the little dog was back on his feet within 24 hours!
“It’s extraordinary, the kind of thing you see in movies,” said the hero vet, “he came back to life and without a single scratch. It’s miraculous,” he added.
It was found that Ethan had a microchip, which is how the vet knew it was his third birthday and the chip also gave police information about a possible owner. However, the owner on the chip was questioned by police and he said that he had given Ethan away. Police are still investigating.
If the person that poisoned Ethan and buried him alive happens to be on the Costa Tropical and reading this, may your plums painfully rot and drop to the floor.
