The chief opposition spokesperson, socialist, Flor Álmon, claims that the Town Hall could be losing up to 350,000 euros a year through bad management of the Blue Zones.
The prime reason, she considers for this situation, is the deal signed between the Town Hall and the company that runs the zones. She points out that with the expansion of the system, certain streets have been included where nobody has any intention of parking. Yet, thanks to the terms of the contract, if the company doesn’t take enough money then the Town Council has to make up the shortfall; hence the 350,000 euros.
“With their drive to collect revenue, the PP has included such areas as El Puente de Toledano, and each year the municipal coffers have to hand over around 250,000 euros to the company that won the contract,” she emphasised. On top of that, she adds, thanks to the Policía Local not being involved with the fining process, citizens are contesting the fines and in most cases they win, which accounts for the other 100,000 euros from the 350,000 yearly loss.
