Torrecueva’s Turn

The Torrecuevas road is having its turn for a bit of attention from the Almuñécar maintenance department with the verges being cleared of excessive vegetation growing on embankments or poking onto the narrow pavement.

According to the Coordinator for the Rural Environment and Torrecuevas, Francisco Alba, the pavement in places had been almost buried under minor earth slips. Add to this the generous donations from fruit farmers along its route who have left cuttings etc, as well as weeds growing up through the cracks and we have something reminiscent of the Mekong Trail 1968, but without the chaps with hubcap headgear and AK-47’s.

Of course, one of the prime reasons behind getting it sorted out now is that school has just started and quite a few kids use the pavement to get to the Torrecuevas junior school.

The strimmers have been busy from where the cemetery is, heading towards the aqueduct. It is precisely on this corner where over-grown triffids have been snatching passing fruit lorries… Seriously, though, the trees that are perched on the embankment not only have branches that obstruct pedestrians, but the roots are also playing havoc with the cemetery walls and the Roman columbine monument, further along.

Accordingly, Sr Alba is calling for drivers to drive cautiously… even if being pursued by ravenous triffids.
