Almuñécar Hangliding Day a Success

The penultimate day of the year marked the 25th anniversary of hang gliding here in Almuñécar, and to celebrate the occasion, 65 paragliders took part in a meet on Velilla Beach, next to El Tesorillo.

Most hang glider pilots took off from the Loma del Gato, although some of them sailed down from Peña Escrita, but regardless of the take off point, everybody aimed for the ringed-target landing area on the beach.

After everybody had landed, participants had lunch on Playa Cabría at one of the two chiringuitos there, whilst the handing over of prizes took place in town at La Italiana cafetería.

The event was organised between the Town Hall (Sports Board), the Club Parapente Costa Tropical and Fly-Park.

Dave Darby – our new Ed – is planning to go tandem with the Dirk at Hotel California – Dirk told him that they had to wait for a windy day so that Dave could act as good ballast… Just saying.
