Cheaper Parking in Almunecar?

San Cristobal

While the IU (left wing coalition) party state that they understand that the pace of changing the Blue Zone timetable is limited by the terms of the contract entered into between the Town Hall and the company that runs it, they hope that once those contracts have expired a radical change will take place.

The changes that they would like to see, as they consider that this is what the citizens of Almunecar expect, are the following:

A) Reducing the cost of residents’ parking passes by 50%.

B) Open up the said passes to people who work in Almunecar, as well as those that live there.

Furthermore, the IU considers that the Town Hall should immediately begin to consult Almunecar residents and businesses, street by street, as they are the ones that are directly affected by the Zonas Azules.

In addition, as a means to increase the use of the underground car parks in Velilla and San Cristobal, the parking fees for those installations should be reduced noticeably – this is to avoid the said installations standing virtually empty during the height of summer, as was the case last year, because of the elevated price of parking there.

Monthly and weekly passes should also be offered at an attractive price, as the IU considers that the object should be the maximum use of these installations, rather than simply making as much money as possible, as both car parks have already cost the town a lot of money, much of which is still owed: according to their estimations, around four million euros.

Lastly, they suggest that both underground parking installations should offer low-price parking to nearby businesses so that they can offer their customers free parking.

On an editorial note, all their suggestions sound quite reasonable. You can post your opinions on the subject at the bottom of this article.
