Motril finally has its much-needed, second criminal court after eleven years of petitioning and bureaucracy.
The Juzgado de los Penal Número 2 began functioning on the last day of June, hopefully putting to an end the chaos caused by a lack of space and personnel, because the Penal Court I had to serve a total of seven examining magistrate’s courts in the local area: five in Motril and two in Almunecar.
What exasperated the overloading of the first criminal court was the flood of cases produced by the new domestic-violence and traffic laws, pushing the work load up by 200% in only six years.
