Gypsies 1 – Payos 0

Before we go any further, for those of you that have never heard of the term, ‘Payo’ it is the term that Gypsies use to describe none-Gypsy Spaniards. Having explained that, just in case, on with the article.

Offspring physically assaulting their parents is a growing problem in Spain, with more and more cases of battered parents at the hands of teenage sons and daughters. In fact, in the province of Granada alone, 120 teenage offspring were found guilty of maltreatment of their own parents last year, with the average age being between 14 and 17.

Not one of those cases, however, corresponded to a Gypsy family, because it is simply unthinkable in their culture, to raise your hand against your own parents. The respect of one’s parents is ingrained within their own society.

No, the culprits are, in their majority, teenagers from middling to well-off families – in other words, spoiled little bastards; bless them.
