Chinasol Chagrin

Workers from Chinasol have been on strike, although they have now returned to work without having achieved much, unfortunately. The workers are owed between 8 and 11 months of salary, which for any household, is a disaster.

Back in January of last year the company behind Chinasol, Playa de la China S.A., submitted an ERE, which allows them to ditch staff to stay afloat – a controversial measure introduced by the Central Government. Thus, nine workers bit the dust. The company justified the ERE claiming that the staff reduction would allow them to pay the remaining staff what was owed to them – it hasn’t happened.

Despite taking their grievances to the Sercla (Sistema Extrajudicial de Conflictos Laborales) it was impossible to reach an agreement with the company. The company promised that the influx of rentals over the Christmas period, many from Scandinavia, would allow them to pay arrears, but they also hinted that they would apply for another ERE this month.

It should be remember that there are three other companies installed within the Chinasol complex that have nothing to do with Playa de la China S.A., but who have suffered collateral damage in this dispute.
