Thirty jet-ski riders competed in the Motril-Melilla race. Some had come from as far as Portugal and Italy to take part in this now annual Motril event.
The 30 ‘motos aquaticos,’ attended by all the support craft, made the 220 nautical mile crossing, taking around ten hours to get there, and then the next day, six hours to get back.
Curiously enough several of those taking part in the race were town-hall officials, such as the Vice-Mayor, Antonio Escámez, who also occupies the post of Councillor for Sports, Councillor Francisco Villoslada, who heads the tourism department, Antonio Pérez, who is in Councillor for Traffic, and Jésus Rodríguez, who is the Chief of the Motril Fire Service.
This year saw the IV Edition of the race, which was set up to enhance the twin towning between Motril and Melilla.
