New Hotel complex

The new hotel Complex is coming. Honestly. Long planned for the vega between El Peñon and La Caleta, final approval is drawing near.

There are a couple of complications, one of them involving an illegal ‘loft’ building owned by one Sr. Jesus Calvo. Apparently, there should have been a demolition order enforced, which somehow fell through the cracks. So, the building is still standing, nobody can start building until it is demolished, and since the Town Hall enforces a court order that may well now be out of date, all is at a standstill.

As usual, nothing in Spain is completely transparent. For a start, there is some accounting that claims to show that Sr. Calvo received rental payments for this ‘illegal’ building, from a Town Hall official. Also, and not necessarily connected, the name of Sr. Calvo has allegedly surfaced in regard to the ‘dodgy’ purchases of property in the Los Minares development, involving the use of black money.

This is not the first problem with clearing the land for the hotel complex. A year or two ago, another illegal building was being occupied by squatters, which prevented its planned demolition. Eventually, the police had to be called in to evacuate the aforesaid.
