The annual wine fest/competition that is held in Rescate came and went at the end of last month, with its usual popular turn out. Fourteen competitors submitted their cherished wine for judgement, so there was plenty to drink. As is the custom, visitors and competitors also tucked into chorizo, morcilla and pork chops, done over a barbeque. To top it all off, there was also a spot of live music in the form of Fandango Cortijero – so there was plenty to be jolly about.
There’s a popular saying, which should interest out resident Scots and that is one related to Saint Andrew: Por San Andrés, el mosto vino es. Or in other words, by Saint Andrew’s day (30 November) your grape brew will have matured into wine, which is why in the early days of December the wine festival is held in Rescate.
The profession wine taster-cum-judge, Maika Díaz Vico, delivered his verdict, bestowing upon Ramón Closas the First and only prize. All the locals and competitors seemed to agree with the verdict, because Ramón wasn’t found at the bottom of the barrancos under mysterious circumstances…
The Mayor, who rarely misses this occasion, took the opportunity to officially open the Centro Rural El Rescate, whose conversion work had been completed from the old school building. This new facility is used for village meetings, or as on this occasion, local fiestas.
