Death in a Gully

Many in the foreign community have already heard about the tragic accident that occurred on a country track, when a car with four youngster inside, who were returning from a Halloween party, drove off the track and plummeted to the bottom of a steep barranco (gully).
The youths, aged between 18 and 23, were on their way home in a Suzuki Grand Vitara, when for reasons unknown the car plunged the 60 metres, which resulted in the youngest. J.B.G., losing his life.
M.J.M (21) and J.B.Q. (23) were seriously injured, whilst the driver, A.S.M., (19) received less serious injuries. It was the 21-year-old and the driver who managed to get out of the wreckage and climb back up to the track, so that they could raise the alarm at the nearest cortijo.
The Guardia Civil, Local Police and fire department from Almuñécar and Motril soon arrived at the scene of the accident and rescued the injured man and the retrieved the body of the 18-year-old boy.
Apart from bearing the burden of causing the death of his young friend, the driver will probably face criminal charges for choosing to drive the vehicle, despite having consumed considerable alcohol.
Jesus B. G. was a very well liked person within the local community, who worked at a glaziers in town. He was also a member of one of the Easter-procession brotherhoods. The turn out at his funeral service at Almuñécar’s main church was considerable, running in to at least a couple of hundred.
