Choir Takes 3rd Prize

choir001_460The Coro de Cámara de Juventudes Musicales de Almuñécar won Third Prize in the international choir competition that was held in Barcelona. Congratulations, Folks!
In the Cértamen Internacional de Coros de Malgrat de Mar there were choirs competing from Italy and Argentina, as well as from other parts of Spain.
This band of vocal brothers… and sisters… OK, brethren, was formed back in the mute depths of 1987 under the baton of Antonio Peralta. The following year Lynne Kurzeknabe took over at the helm, offering two concerts a year: one at Christmas and one in June, which has always been very popular. I went along to one of the Christmas concerts in the main church in Almuñécar and was literally moved to tears by the setting and harmony, I don’t mind confessing.
During its existence, which spans over 20 years, they have performed in Germany: Heidelberg, Speyer, Bad Durkheim, Strasburg and Köln and Canada, if I remember correctly. As for the home turf, they have performed in the Mezquita in Córdoba and the cathedrals of Burgos and León. Not bad, eh?
