Here’s all the low down on Órgiva’s fiestas, starting on Thursday the 1st and finishing on the Sunday the 4th, if you’re lucky.
Day One kicks off at midday with the exhibition of children’s paintings at the Peña Barcelonista (Barcelona FC fans club). At 14.00h there will be a lunch in honour of the town’s elderly citizens in the Caseta Municipal (Plaza Alpujarra). At 17.00h are the finals of the competitions organised by Centro Guadalinfo Órgiva: Super Tux Tournament, Frozen Bubble Tournament and the Mahjong Tournament. In the evening the big bonfire will be lit by the Mayoress and everybody will get pissed, I imagine – there’ a surprised.
Friday starts at 11.00h with a Playstation Championship at the Peña Barcelonista, followed at 11.30 by a spin round the town in the road train (multi-carriaged tourist train on wheels). At 12.00h there is a photo exhibition of Órgiva past and present and then a cattle show, down at the Alameda del Río Chico, in front of the municipal marquee only half an hour later, so don’t hang around too long with the photos. At 13.30h there’s a carnival float competition, sort of thing and half an hour later there will a public lynching of Belgian tourists… I might be lying?
