The Guardia Civil arrested a 23-year-old Moroccan man, accused of burgling a house in Almuñécar – he was caught in the act by the house owner, who had been asleep inside at the time.
The arrested man reportedly fled via the bathroom window, once detected, only to be caught by Guardia Civil, who found him hiding beneath a parked van.
The incident occurred around 7pm one Sunday evening in a building on the Avenida Don Juan Carlos I. The accused allegedly found entrance to a 1st-floor flat via said bathroom window. Once inside he grabbed 40 euros, a watch and a bracelet, says the police report. So far so good, but he decided to push his luck and enter into the bedroom where the occupants were sleeping.
Unfortunately for him, he made a noise and the owner woke up, blinking at the stranger at the bottom of his bed. They both reacted at once, but the thief managed to scramble out of the window before the owner could stop him – or perhaps he thought it prudent to let him escape, rather than get into a scrap with a man who could have been armed.
As mentioned above, the Guardia Civil, who were very quick off the mark, found the man under a vehicle with the missing goods in his possession.
The Guardia Civil remind us that even though it is hot at this time of the year, we shouldn’t sleep with the windows open, because it is when most break-ins occur, thanks to open window.
