You may remember reading last month about young Santiago Alonso, the goat herder who, in protest at having been fined 10,000 euros for constructing a somewhat rickety shack for his goats in the campo, rocked up at the town-hall square with all 200 (199 sorry one got run over) of his merry goat brigade in tow. Santiago and his herd managed to stick out their protest for a total of three whole days, much to the bemusement of residents and visitors alike. But the good news is his efforts were not in vain.
Local Councillors all agreed to donate a share of their salary to pay his fines…. and have the damn goats removed from their premises of course.
Three days of goat occupation didn’t exactly leave the town hall smelling of roses though and they had to close its doors down for a further three days just to fumigate and get rid of all the fleas!
