Pedestrians Only… At Last

Now, we couldn’t let a month go by without a roadwork tale or two, not when the Spanish are so fond of their diggers. This time however it’s by popular demand and the residents of La Guardia are actually happy to see work begin on turning the area into a pedestrian one.
Historically residents have always complained of excessive traffic problems and called for something to be done. Now, with financial help from the State, the 150,000-euro project will prevent traffic on the road, right from the entrance of La Guardia, through to the car park on the beach.
It’s expected to take four months to complete and then businesses will be free to use the area for their terraces, which, in the past, has proved very difficult due to the traffic. Ambient street lighting will also be installed along the new pavement that will feature modern street furniture with patches of shade and greenery.
