Torben: Nothing new has come out of the Town Hall so far, but I will check.

    Hi Martin
Do you know if there are any news since Nov 5 2022, about the construction of a new access road to Cármenes del Mar in La Herradura?
I can’t find anything on the town hall website.

    Kind regards

As Almunecar is twinned with bombed Khan Yunis in Gaza, has there been any comments of solidarity
from the Almunecar Mayor or other political people.

I read the Seaside Gazzete online every day and find it very interesting and informative, but sometimes everything freezes and the only way out is to shut my computer down, Does anyone else have this problem?

  8. James Wright says:

    Martin,
do you have any more information regarding the Rodrigues Acosta brothers and the investigation into the Carmenes del Mar debacle and their decision to go into administration after the court found that they were responsible for the faulty construction of the urbanisation

  9. Frederic Messinger says:

Dear All living in La Herradura,

since a few month there is a constant noise pollution, especially over the Cerro Gordo area of town, caused by hobby airplanes located at the Velez-Malaga Airport.
I watched the routes on flight radar and they had the brilliant idea of doing their practice circling right over our area. I am sure, and talked to other inhabitance of my neighborhood, that I am not the only one bothered by this unnecessary noise.
Is there anything that can or has been done to stop this ?
    Can not be legal.

Would appreciate comments on this subject.

    Best regards

    Frederic Messinger

  10. Patrick Barry Storey says:

Hi Martin. Very strange last night after midnight. Loads of red I guess boat lights. Leaving la Caleta beach bay area. Heading upto and around the penon. Then out to sea . Then each light disappeared far out. This went on in small groups of five red light for about 30 mins. Any ideas

  11. Martin says:

Lise: Firstly about 90% of the jet skis out there are privately owned by summer visitors. Ones belonging to charter/nautical-activities businesses are strictly controlled because those companies don’t need the hassle of dealing with fines and complaints. As for the Town Hall, it says that the sea off the beaches come under the control of Costas and the municipality has no authority over it, which is a bit of a cop out. So, the people who can and do clamp down on them are the Guardia Civil maritime service and their choppers, but they already have enough on their hands controlling illegal fishing and drug landings, etc.

  12. Lise Andreasen says:

Hi – could I ask the Gazette to follow up on the jet ski situation ie La Herradura bay.
For the past years the noise level has risen dramatically, and frankly the noise is a sound polution that affects the whole bay and the nearby urbanisations. How can this be tolerated and legal?

  13. T Smallen says:

    Hi Martin

I see in Salobreña there is zero progress on the hotel building by the beach. Do you know who paid for the work that was done on urbanising the land about 5 years ago? Who actually owns the land at present? Who is paying for the upkeep and lighting etc?

  14. Michael says:

A recent article concerns new requirements for licence renewal for over 65s, which I imagine applies to a large majority of your readers.
This really looks like age discrimination, since the highest rate of fatal accidents involve drivers aged between 45 and 54 (2019 dgt figures) at 317 while those aged 65 to 74 had an incident rate of 182 which is even less than the 25 to 34 age group. Older people tend to have a greater sense of self preservation unlike immortal youngsters. Perhaps the DGT need to take a Psychophysical test to alter their perception.

  15. Brian Cockerell says:

Hi Martin, I was recently in La Herradura where we have a delightful village house. While there I happened to pick up an ‘old’ copy of the Seaside Gazette and in it was a short article about the recent death of Trevor Sherrell. Many years ago (12 or 15) we got to know Trevor and June, having met after we got chatting to them in a bar in Otivar. We swapped phone numbers, and met up with them once or twice each year for a superb meal and a bottle for two of vino Tinto either at their villa or where we lived in the campo up in the mountains near Canillas De Albaida, our previous property. We last met up with them 2 or 3 years ago after their regular Thursday evening tango session in the Ayuntamiento, La Herradura. They were both fantastic company and I recall endless conversations about which of us grew the most different types of tropical fruit (25 -30). I wonder if you could let me know if June is still with us and if so where, and what eventually happened to ‘the invincible’ Trevor, Regards, Brian Cockerell

    Martyn.
Is it not worth it to go to the private medical centre in Salobrena or elsewhere and maybe pay for or get a few goes on that damm machine, before sitting the real test?

Self-induced stress is a bugger, especially when the assessor tutts under her breath and raises her eyebrows… When you ask, “did I do ok?”

Eyesight etc can be sorted out, but the Space Invaders!

  17. Raynauld says:

Merci pour vos articles je suis un de vos fideles lecteurs je recherche un garagiste qui parle le Francais et une banque ou l on parle le Francais a Almuñécar ou a Salobreña merci de me renseigner

  18. Editor says:

Terri: I’m sorry but there have been no further press releases on these points given that politicians are tied up with the local elections campaigns. As soon as something surfaces, we will let you know. 😉

  19. Terri says:

I would like to know more on the plans for La Caleta , not only the hotel planned, but the jetty that was to be built to help augment the beach there, and the mini marina plans. What are the plans for the factory?

  20. Patrick Barry Storey says:

Sandra. Keep an eye open for flying elephants and honest answers from those that run the towns and cities.
Ps. The beach sea protection is going to be fixed manana. !! 🙂

  21. Sandra Mihlenstedt says:

Does anyone know when the underground carpark in Almunecar is gonna open again

  22. Martin says:

Patrick: Love it: “not even I would do that!” I’ve got to renew my Spanish licence to and run the Space-Invader gauntlet pretty soon, too. March this year!!!

  23. Patrick Barry Storey says:

No not even I would do that. It was a CAB Link to what is almost happening. In it it said about the small test and medical. Almost as an afterthought. To be honest. I thought I’d failed the two handle keep the oblong thing between two lines. Having never used such a machine.so how those that maybe older then me will cope. ??
Three goes at it. Three tests and three fees. Poor people. !!

  24. Martin says:

Patrick: If you were posting on the Embassy’s facebook account, they would have the Ambassadors hanging humphries on a plate for permitting a criticism of the Spanish Government on the embassy’s official account. That’s what I take from it, Pat.

  25. Patrick Barry Storey says:

It’s ok. It seems my saying. “Governments need money .” Was an opinion. Not a fact.!! Really. I thought that was a fact. Anyway that’s why They declined my text.
    Gosh darn it. !!

  26. Patrick Barry Storey says:

Martin. May I ask your opinion on a text I submitted to a normally reasonable Facebook website. That helps expats.
It was declined. No reasons given.
So your opinion on whether I was being too smart. ??
” While it’s good news that the driving licenses wheels turn. The bad news I think. Will be having to take the
medical/space Invaders type machine test I luckily just exchanged. No test at that time. If you’ve never done this. It is keeping an oblong shape between two lines , representing a road. Which starts straight. Then bends a lot. Great if your used to using two handles to guide a oblong shape or space Invaders. Perhaps it’s different in other test centres. I had to do this after my 65th and will have it again at my 70th. The chat with the doctor involved an eye test. As I use distance glasses. So maybe with the upcoming exchanges . There will be no charge .
But governments need money post covid. !!”
Now that’s a bit long winded. But the statement from the UK ambassador. Just says exchanges imminent. Just require a medical with a test. Yes you can have three goes at passing. I have no idea if that’s three lots of about €50+ .
Anyway. Just wondering if my previous as above was a bit too honest. An honest opinion . Don’t worry I won’t cry.

  27. Martin says:

Christine: just go along to the Medical Centre, take a ticket (like you would at the meat or fish department in a supermarket, wait for your number to come up (there’s an electronic display board) and tell the woman that you want the covid booster “vacuna contra covid.” Don’t forget to take along your Andalusian health card and ID.

  28. Christine says:

Does anyone know how and where to get a COVID booster shot here in Almuñécar? I’m an oldster who needs the booster.

  29. Martin says:

Isabel: official press releases (town halls, 112, Guardia Civil, etc) are sent to prensa@theseasidegazette.com. Feliz año nuevo 😉

  30. Isabel Castro says:

Can you send me an email address where to send a press release, please?

  31. Martin says:

Thank you Pete, we’re covering the flat fire in La Herradura for the 16.00h article. Please send a photo to publisher@theseasidegazette.com. Many thanks.

  32. Pete says:

Five cars have been burnt in the Castile San Miguel area last night. One by the castle and four on the approach road. Please contact me if you would like me to send photos / video.

I am aware of other fires in the old town area including my Vespa in February. Must be a pyromaniac(s) on the loose. Can you please update with any police response?

    Thanks
    Pete

  33. Patrick Barry Storey says:

E Bikes. I must have misread. ? I thought that the Policia Local and others, were cracking down on the twits who ignore all safety rules. Mind you a bit like many adults and young mainly males, that cycle on pavements then straight onto roads
I had a near miss in the car park of Merki, Salobrena.
I was doing the taught to me , safe way of parking into a space by reversing. Hazards on etc. Not really taught here or acknowledged as safe. But like roundabouts and signalling I guess. !!
Anyway an E Bike with two on board whizzed behind me. Causing me to stop abruptly.
My question.? If I had not stopped in time and hit them. Admittedly at low speed. On private property of a supermarket and those persons not wearing protection of any kind and going behind a reversing car.
Would I as Johnny Foreigner be found at fault.? I have no desire to hurt any young person or persons that walk in front of me at roadsides. While texting or on their mobiles. Or behind me as I reverse.!
But I do worry, as I have had a few scares and always it seems the driver is guilty. Your opinions. ??

  34. Warrens Questions says:

    Viva La Caleta

    Warren

  35. Patrick Barry Storey says:

Sadly. Ginger cat . Looks well fed or was. Side of road coming down from Pargo Villas. Opposite the bins and before the traffic lights at la Caleta . I didn’t stop I’m afraid. But someone might miss him. ??

  36. Patrick Barry Storey says:

Martin. At the seafront of Salobrena. If you turn towards the Rock. There is a right turn between the shops/restaurants. With single yellow lines. What are the rules on this or are three cars just being parked by lazy People. As there were parking spots in the road down and back up.!!
Oddly although the Salobrena web site says parking payment until 15/09. I could not find a machine to pay.

  37. Martin says:

Ronny: where are you posting from – I cannot tell you if I don’t know which town you live in?

  38. Hola
Donde compra frutas y cerduras ecologicas?
    Where to juy organic food?

I found one herbolario which is super expensive. Supermarkets mostly sell fake organic or are even more expensive.

    Thanks
    Namaste

  39. Darius Messayeh says:

    Dear Editor,

This might be an unusual question, but No. 20 restaurant in La Herradura closed earlier this year!

Does anyone know if any of the excellent chefs are working elsewhere in La Herradura?

    I would appreciate any information.

    Many thanks.

    Kind regards,
    Darius Messayeh

  40. Martin says:

Jenny: we will post an update after Infoca issues their official morning one. There were eight fire engines needed for their 3.5-tonnes of water onboard and three bulldozers present last night but far fewer troops on the ground, basically a picket of 20 firefighters and their support personnel.

  41. jennyn2006@hotmail.co.uk says:

    Hi
Thank you for the article about the fire in Alto.Lots of info for those of us who arent there. Is there an update please? Is the fire under control?Thank you

  43. Caryn says:

Hello, please can you tell me how I subscribe to the gazette online.
I am away in London much of the year and would like to stay abreast of what is happening here.
    Many thanks from Cotobro/London
    Caryn .

  44. John says:

Does anyone know about the planned investment in 2 five star hotels at Salobrena? I’m assuming that Covid killed it off but it would be good to have the position confirmed.

All that preparation work must have cost a pretty penny and now it’s just covered in vegetation.

  45. Martin says:

Brian: Of course. My most sincere condolences, Brian. I’ll get back to you by email this morning. I’ll post the obit here and in the next paper edition. I really am very sorry to hear that Janet has gone.

  46. Brian Ryles says:

Martin, my wife Janet Ryles died in hospital in Granada two weeks ago following a massive stoke.
We have a house in Cazulas which we bought in 1988. Would you consider writing a short obituary for her?

  47. Martin says:

Sacha: No, sorry. I passed through on my way to the coast this morning and then back up around five and I saw no notices. I’ll ask at the garage: they said that they had heard nothing but that Aguas & Servicios (waterboard) was around this morning. They have water in the gasolinera.

  48. Sacha says:

Hi Martin, have you heard anything about Molvizar and campo area being completely without water today? Thanks.
