IU Promises to Remove Blue Zones

Now whilst on the subject of Blue Zones I was gratified to see at least one party had promised to get rid of them should they get into power, or at least have a voice in a coalition council. The party in question was the IU, which is a traditional left-wing party, rather than the modern left of centre socialists.

Dangerous Cycling Lanes

Which brings us on to the bicycle lanes along Velilla… The old set up, with parking on both sides of the road, but side-by-side, rather than in a line no only offered more parking, but it was also safer – let me explain.

Goodbye Stumps

At last, the wooden stumps – all that is left of the old wooden paseo – have been removed, or at least, the authorities have made a stab at it. (to make an effort towards.)

Talking of fiascos, what about the monstrosity just below Urb. El Gallo on Punta de la Mona? You know; that apart-hotel scheme, built smack in the middle of a barranco, which allegedly caused the back road down to Hotel Alcazar to completely collapse and the main road down through the Punta to partially collapse?

Drowned Angler

The major but very sad news this month is the death of an angler on the Punta de la Mona. The 29-year-old man, Carlos P.A., had stripped and jumped into the sea and it is reported that a wave threw him against the rocks, causing him to drown.

Underwater Welding Course

Another item of news concerning divers is the initiation of the first professional divers course in the province at the Centro de Buceo de La Herradura, giving diplomas to the students to work in underwater construction, welding and salvage operations, etc.

Herradura’s I Feria Gastronomica

The I Feria Gastronómica is set to go ahead on the 3rd, 4th and 5th of June. Applicants had until the 30th of April to request a stand, and if we had known about it at the Gazette, we would have warned you in the last issue.

Tourist Office Opening Hours

Just a quick reminded that the Salobrena Oficina de Turismo is operating under new opening times, which are as follow: Monday to Friday, 9:00h to 15:00h and in the afternoon from 16:30h to 20:00h.

A man before the Motril law courts was found guilty of talking a minor into leaving home over an Internet chat connection.

Bus Station News – or Not…

Motril’s amazing, new ‘invisible’ bus station is rumoured to be materialising soon. The contract has finally been assigned, with Contrat Ingeniería y Obras S.A. winning the bid.
