If you visit the Almuñécar area, and don’t eat at Los Laureles at least once, then you should seriously consider a visit to the old ‘head doctor’ when you get home, because you’d have to be mad not to eat there!

Plush Café-Restaurant Opens
by David Darby •
Literally the other side of the bridge, on the same side of the road, a very well decorated café-restaurant has opened in the Kairos building. The brothers, Vicente and Antonio Zamora, also run the successful bar-restaurant in Otívar called Bar-Restaurante Madera, by the way.
Tartana Summer Menu
by David Darby •
Flaming June is upon us, the sun is now a daily companion, and there could be no better place to enjoy those rays than the beautiful terraces at La Tartana.
Penny tells me they are introducing their summer menu to accompany the warmth… but don’t fret all you regulars, all the old favourites will remain and run concurrent with the new dishes.
Summer at El Faro
by David Darby •
By the time you read this, El Faro’s ‘summer menu’ will be being offered daily, along with the wonderful Traditional Sunday Roast, of course, which will continue as usual throughout the summer, but booking is strongly advised.
El Ancla Offer
by David Darby •
Fish and chips on a Friday were always the order of the day when I was a lad. Luckily, we can have Jonathan’s spectacular fish and chips at El Ancla every day, that’s right, not just Fridays but every day!
But just to keep Fridays a bit special, the brilliant offer during June is a bottle of house red or white wine with your fish and chips! That’s right, you can have fish and chips every day, but on Fridays you get a bottle of wine to boot, absolutely free! (Probably best you book in advance).
Los Laureles for Dads
by David Darby •
21st of June is Father’s Day, and in celebration of this, Mark is preparing a fantastic three-course menu for just €15, with a choice of three starters, mains and desserts. He assures me that one of the mains will be Roast Sirloin of Beef and the puddings will be typically ‘dad pleasing’ dishes. Bearing in mind the success of the Mother’s Day menu, we strongly suggest you book your table well in advance.
Mirador Extra!
by David Darby •
Did you know that the Mirador de Cerro Gordo is expanding? Not in size, obviously, because if it got any bigger it would slide off the top of hill and down onto La Herradura beach… which, I admit, would have a certain comedy value, but then where would we all go?
Seriously, they are expanding their hours to seven days a week, all day, from 11am. Which is great for me, as I love it up there… in fact last time I was there Kevin donned a night shirt, a floppy hat and was wandering around with a candle… I think maybe I’d outstayed my welcome?
