Another Costa Hill Fire

There’s been another hill fire, proof that the fire season is far from over, this time in Vélez de Benaudalla in the area of the Gorgoracha (where the tunnel is).

By 19:45h yesterday evening, Infoca declared the hill fire as controlado, which means that they have it surrounded so it cannot advance in any direction, and now they are concentrating on squeezing the fire within its perimeter.

An hour earlier infoca had the following assets deployed: five forest firefighting crews and two back-up, helitack crews (specialised teams of firefighters, flown in by helicopter known as Bricas), making a total of 57 personnel, backed by one 4×4 fire engine, three medium helicopters, two land-based, waterbomber aircraft, and a mobile medical unit.

The aircraft, both choppers and Air Tractor 802s aeroplanes, were withdrawn just before dusk, as they are not equipped to fly at night at low levels.

We will update this article in the morning when there is more news.
