Driving off A Bridge

A driver was injured on Friday the 8th after his jeep plunged over the side of a bridge on the MA-4105 between Sedella and Canillas de Aceituno in the Axarquia.

The soft-top vehicle had fallen over ten metres onto the stream bed, according to the Fire Department report on the incident.

The accident happened quite early in the morning, around 07:15h leaving the SUV in a write-off state. The Vélez-Málaga fire station was alerted, along with emergency medical personnel from 061 and the Guardia Civil.

The driver was still inside the vehicle when the emergency teams arrived, put it wasn’t easy reaching him given the steep-sided barranco.

However, fire personnel did manage to climb down to the vehicle and extract driver carefully placing him on a specialised equipment (spinal board) to prevent and further possible damage to his back and neck.

Once back on the road, he was taken to the Axarquía Regional Hospital in Vélez-Málaga. There has been no information on his identity nor medical condition.

The Guardia Civil traffic police have taken charge of the investigation to try and clarify the exact circumstances behind the accident.
