Symbollic Mural

Members of the Plataforma en Defensa del Agua del Valle de Lecrín have painted a mural on the side of a building in Cónchar; a woman filling a water jug.

The idea behind the work is not only artistic, but also, and more importantly, to remind all those that see it of the importance of water in the valley; how it was used carefully without squander because water is the basis of life and the basic foundation of not only in the village of Cónchar, but of the whole Valle de Lecrín.

The mural was finished to coincide with the World Water Day (March the 22nd).

Water is a bone of contention in the Valley following the controversial concession of a water-bottling plant that many feel is depleting the water table.

You only need to look at the Fuente/Pilar del Mono in Dúrcal, which used to gush water all year round, and now stands dry despite one of the wettest winter’s in living memory.
