Child Cruelty in The Park

Officers belonging to the Policía Local in Granada arrested a woman in her late 20s for treating cruelly (domestic abuse) her small daughter in a park.

The incident took place last Sunday in El Parque Federico García Lorca and involved the 29-year-old mother and her 2-year-old daughter and resulted in the child being hospitalised and the mother awaiting trial.

The police were alerted by several park users, saying that a woman repeatedly lifted her daughter off the ground by her hair, as well as shaking her violently and striking her.

A patrol was sent to the park and arrived in time to be able to question the mother. She didn’t deny her behaviour towards her daughter but offered that the child “was behaving very badly.”

Given witness testimony and the woman’s own statements, officers arrested her on suspicion of domestic abuse. Her daughter was treated by paediatric services, who found her to have bruises and a cut on her eyebrow. Medical staff reported the results of their examination of the child to the duty court.

Consequently, the girl has been placed in a care as a precautionary measure.
