Two reservoirs, or embalses as they are known in Spanish, have had to open their flood gates as they are brimming.
These two are the Embalse de Portillo (near Castril) Embalse de Quéntar. However, others are not filling as fast and, in fact, three have less water accumulated than they did at this time last year: Negratín, Canales and Béznar

The Confederación Hidrográfica del Guadalquivir e Hidrosur (The Guadalquivir Water Authorities) say that the average for the reservoirs in Granada is only 42% full.
They continue to fill, however, so we will have to wait until the spring rains have come and gone to know how they will stand for the summer.
Editorial comment: we can only hope that the eternal work taking place on the bridge over the Emblase de Rules does not require letting water go to keep the rising level away from the new support pillar, which is what they did last year.
