Valley Charity Run

The IX Ponteenmarchaya Lecrín 2025, charity run, took place on Sunday the 19th of October with 1,800 people gathered, counting spectators and runners.

Organised by the Lecrín Town Hall, the takings were handed over in their entirety to the Asociación de Padres de Niños con Cáncer (AUPA).

The route was chosen so that runners could take in “the magical nooks & crannies of Granada’s hidden jewel.” The participants ran past orange and lemon groves as well as centenary olive trees.

The 10km route which had 170 runners, passed through the streets of Murchas, greeted by the crowds of spectators clapping them on in support.

There was also a paella solidaria, as well as plates of jamón serrano supplied by Café Candelas and homemade cakes etc brought from Alfacar thanks to Pastelería Blanca. Of course, there was also a bar supplying refreshments.

Children were catered for with a trampoline, games and educational workshops, making the whole event a family affair.

On a slightly negative note, perhaps, the controversial water-bottling plant, Aquadeus, opposed by many people in the valley, provided water for all.

All told, though, the event was a resounding success and congratulations are deserved by all those who participated.
