Residents in Edificio Silvia, Edificio Sandra and chalets on Calle Olmos in La Herradura, have submitted their objections to the old Estacíon Náutico being demolished to make way for flats.
The above mentioned apartment blocks and semi-detached chalets are on the return road behind the Paseo Andrés Segovia, down the eastern end.

The residents filed a written objection to the project that was recently announced by the Mayor, which provides low-rental accommodation for young people because they consider that, “The municipal proposal is not in the general interest [of the people of La Herradura] but rather means the definitive loss of one of the few public spaces available for the social & sport use of residents.”
The people behind the complaint, Trinidad Gómez, Juan Calvo and Luis Pérez González, said, “It is incomprehensible that the Town Hall intentionally abandons what has been the nautical centre for many years and intends, instead, to build dwellings in the most expensive area within La Herradura, when other publicly owned plots of land exist which are much more suitable for the intended purpose.”
In short, what they want is to have Estación Náutica back up and running and for the housing to be built elsewhere.
Consequently, they have asked the Town Hall, reconsider and listen to what locals have to say. They also point out that they are not against housing for young people but not at the expense of sacrificing seafront public land.

Reader’s comment: “I’m no psychic, but I have a feeling that any apartments that get built on that plot will not end up as cheap rentals for young families. Somewhere along the line they will evolve into luxury front-line sea-view apartments, and be sold as such, making a few people a great deal of money while not solving the problem of affordable accommodation for local people.” – Barnacle Bill
