A dolphin that had become stranded on a beach in Albuñol died despite attempts to save its life.
A young couple came across the creature in the surf off Playa El Pozuelo around 09.00h yesterday morning. They tried to stop it being brought up onto the beach by the waves but couldn’t prevent it in the end.

Once there, some young anglers tried to keep it hydrated by laying wet towels over the creature and pouring sea water over it.
The dolphin had an open wound near its mouth (beak) that may have been caused by rocks whilst it was being thrown around by the surf.
Servicio de Protección de la Naturaleza (Seprona) belonging to the Guardia Civil were alerted to its presence and they in turn contacted the Centro de Recuperación de Especies Marinas Amenazadas (CREMA) in Málaga.
Unfortunately, neither the officers belonging to Seprona nor the veterinary service were able to prevent it from dying around 11.00h. The animal had been sick.
The CREMA took charge of the corpse in order to carry out an autopsy.
