When you combine a wetter than normal year with soaring summer temperatures, then our 6-legged vampires; a.k.a. mosquitoes, will abound.
Now this it is not just a case of having an itchy patch of skin because a mosquito confused you with a service station, but it also concerns the transmission of the virus responsible for West Nile Fever. Last year, for example there were 107 confirmed cases between July and October, with the majority within the province of Sevilla.

For this reason, the Junta de Andalucía has stepped up its campaign to tackle the virus by categorising municipalities with risk levels into Low, Medium and High. The Town Halls have to draw up prevention plans, which can cost anywhere between 15,000 and 20,000 euros per annum.
Which brings us to the Torrox Town Hall, which has been busy spraying insecticide around the municipality to reduce the mosquito population; thus the risk of somebody contracting
What they are spraying is environmental friendly (unless you are a mosquito). For example, they are using AQUABAC® 200G and DIPTRON® with Etofenprox. The former is a biological larvicide based on cultures of the bacteria called Bacillus thuringiensis variety israeliensis, which releases an endotoxin that damages the intestinal walls of mosquito larvae, preventing their development.
As for DIPTRON®, it is a concentrated insecticide and larvicide, which is highly effective against crawling and flying insects.
