The 13-month old baby who was rushed to hospital after an accident in a bathtub succumbed to its injuries after three days in the ICU.

All efforts to keep the child alive at the Hospital Materno Infantil in Málaga proved in vain, despite efforts to revive the baby using CPR, after almost drowning on Thursday .

The Guardia Civil have opened an investigation into the incident that took place whilst the mother was washing the baby in a bathtub.

It’s not clear what happened for the baby to end up submersed in the bath water and suffering the effects of drowning, but the mother immediately reacted by rushing the child to the nearby medical centre.

This is the second incident in Málaga where a minor drowned, occurring just a few days before, on the 2nd of June. In this case it was a 12-year-old who drowned in a private pool in Mijas.
