A 70-year-old beekeeper was arrested for 'setting his bees upon' traffic-police officers after they stopped and breathalysed him.

This occurred in the Catalan town of Ververa on the 30th of May on the A-2 autovía and resulted in the two officers requiring medical attention.

The officers belonging to the Catalan police force, Los Mossos d’ Esquadra, had set up a road-control point and noticed that the driver of a van was not wearing a seatbelt and was showing signs of being drunk. So they breathalysed him.

It camer back positive so they told him that they were going to carry out a second breathalyser test to be sure and he said, “hang on a mo…” and went and opened the back door of the van.

Before the officers knew what was happening they had hundreds of bees zooming in on them. Although stung all over, the officers managed to “control the situation created by the bees,” and clamped the cuffs on the beekeeper.

He was charged with drink driving, not wearing a seatbelt and assauting police officers.
