Officers from the Policía Local in Torrox rescued a German couple in their 70s who were trapped by a fire in their home.
Officers Diego Blancat and Alejandro Ortiz, despite the flames pouring out of the garage, entered the house and managed to get the The Gunters out and to safety.

Officer Blancat explained that when they arrived at the house next to the autovía/BP gasolinera in the Pago de La Dehesa area of the municipality, large flames were pouring out of the garage on the ground floor of the property.
Regardless of this, they ran into the house, located the couple, aged 73 and 74, and brought them out to a safer spot; the husband was trapped on the porch on the next level and his wife inside.
The fire had begun in the garage around 06.00h Tuesday morning, not long after getting their power back after the nationwide outage during the previous day and most of the early hours of the next.
Both the man and woman were in good health and didn’t require medical attention despite the ordeal. The fire service from Nerja soon arrived but took three house to put the fire out.
Although the couple were no worse for wear, Officer Diego Blancat was taken to the medical centre by his colleague suffering from mild smoke poisoning.
One final point, when the officers arrived at the scene, a neighbour was trying to put the fire out with a garden hose and who also cooperated with the emergency services during the whole episode, something that the two officers wanted to express their gratitude to him about.
