Church Break-in

The Policía Nacional arrested a man in his late 40s suspected of breaking into a church in the city of Granada and causing damage as well as carriying out acts of theft.

The 48-year-old man has eight previous arrests, the last three of which were for the same kind of offence.

The burglary had been reported after church helpers found that the door to the vestry had been forced open. They also saw that the window to the priest’s living accommodation within the church had also been forced.

After rifling through drawers and cupboards, both in the vestry and the living accommodation, the thief made off with a booty of phone chargers, a laptop computer, a microphone and office material used during Sunday-school classes.

Another expense incurred because of the break-in was the damage, with three doors forced and two fractured showcase panes.

Just the previous month the same church had suffered another burglary when a thief or thieves had entered and stolen copper pipes and caused notable damage to the premises.

Editorial comment: this church is in the north of the city, which is a conflictive area of the city.
