A pit-bull terrier attacked and killed a chihuahua in March whilst the owner was walking it in a park in the city of Granada.
This took place in the Chana area of the city around noon when the pit bull, which was not on a lead, set on the much smaller dog and quickly killed it.
Now the Chana used to be a rough area of the city but it still is, it appears, if you have four legs and measure little more than a mouthful.
Several witnesses saw the pit bull chew its way through the chihuahua despite the frantic but futile efforts of woman to defend her pet.
The owner of the pit-bull, instead of approaching and attempting to disengage his dog, ran off, according to these same witnesses.
Patrols from the Policía Nacional and Policía Local were soon at the scene but by then the pit-bull terrier, its owner and most of the chihuahua had disappeared.
Well, the Policía Local opened an investigation and pointed out that dogs that are considered a dangerous breed must be on a lead at all times when being walked.
Editorial comment: there is this old joke where a man asks in a pub whose was the pit-bull tied up outside and a man answers, “Mine, why?” The other man responds, “My chihuahua just killed it.” The pit-bull owner gasps, “A chihuahua killed my pit-bull terrier! How?” The other man answered, “He choked on it.”
Yeah, we know, it’s politically incorrect… but this is the Gazette, after all.
