Bizarre Gratitude

A man in Pinos Genil saw two homelss people (a young man and woman, the former was French) rumaging through a rubbish hopper for food, so he decided to help them.

He had bought food so he invited them in to have a hot meal, however the encounter ended with the Frenchman gashing the Good Samaritan’s throat with a broken bottle. For good measure, the man then stabbed the victim twice in the abdomen.

Watching the victim bleeding to death, the couple decided to turn over the flat and then flee the scene. Two days later the Guardia Civil ran them to ground on the 12th of October, 2022 at Granada bus station and arrested them.

Amazingly, despite his wounds, the victim recovered. Since the arrest the Frenchman has been remanded in custody awaiting trial but his female accomplice was released pending trial. However, she took the opportunity to disappear and now has an arrest warrant out on her.

The case will reach trial around the end of this month where he will face charges of attempted murder and robbery. The Public Prosecutor recommends eight years’ imprisonment for the attempted murder and two more for the robbery. He also recommends 27,000 euros in compensation for the victim.

The photo that accompanies this article is a still from a CCTV that is installed in a building opposite the home of the victim, on Carretera de la Sierra in Pinos Genil. The couple can be seen entering the building and then coming out, with the man covered in blood.
