They have started work on improving the GR-5209, which connects Gualchos to Motril, laying new tarmac.
The work affects five kilometres of road from the junior school to the Lújar crossroad and has a budget of 352,000 euros.

The Mayor of Gualchos-Castell de Ferro, Toñi Antequera, and Vice-Mayor Celedonio Puga were there yesterday for a photo op.
She pointed out that these roadworks were very important for Gualchos as locals have long demanded that something be done about this access road to the village as it was in a very deteriorated state.
“It’s great news, at last, that the main access to the village is being improved with a new layer of tarmac and sign posting, as this access road is the most used,” said the Mayor.
The work, which began yesterday, is financed by the Provincial Council, and will necessitate that the road be closed from now until Friday.
