Filling the Sky

The province of Granada is preparing for the XXV Festival de Aerostación Geoparque de Granada and Campeonato de Andalucía this month!

This annual, hotair-balloon event will take place on the 24th, 25th and 26th in the Guadix area in the north-east of Granada.

Organised por Glovento Sur and the Federación de los Deportes Aéreos de Andalucía (FEADA), the festival will see the sky above festooned with colourful balloons in a spectacular fashion, which is certainly not something to be missed.

But it is not only about showing off what’s in the sky with 15 teams taking part, but also the spectacular scenery of the land below it; i.e., the Geopark badlands.

The teams behind each balloon will make a total of four ascents as a requirement for the Andalusian Aerostatic-Balloon Championships, launching from the Guadix fairground.

Friday the 24th will begin with the flights over the Geoparque, taking off between 08.30h and 10.00h. Then on Saturday, flights will take place again between 08.30h and 10.00h, over the Geoparque, as well, and then in the afternoon, between 16.00h and 18.00h there will be a chance to go up in a tethered balloon over the Guadix fairground.

Sunday is the last day of the event and will start with launches between 08.30h and 10.00h from the fairground.

Obviously, the exact launch points will depend on the weather and wind direction on the day, which will be published on the Glovento Sur Facebook account.
