An elderly driver lost control of his car, ran up onto a pedestrian pavement and knocked over a family: a mother and father pushing their baby in a pram.
This took place in the Zaidín area of the city of Granada; i.e., the metropolitan area on Friday last week on Calle Andrés Segovia.
Eyewitnesses first thought that it was a terrorist attack, as it came shortly after the incident in the United States when a driver deliberately ran down several pedestrians.
The family were left lying on the street near the metro station and the car that hit them ended up coming to rest after hitting a wall – it was already dark as it happened around 20.00h.
One of the parents had to be taken to the Hospital de Neurotraumatología y Rehabilitación in the city. The other suffered bruising. Thankfully, the baby was uninjured.
The 78-year old driver, who was heading in the direction of the Palacio de Deportes, also had to be taken to hospital because of his injuries. There were three passengers in the car, who also had to have their injuries treated. All told, six people were injured.
