Corkscrew Revenge

It started off as a mates' night out but ended up with somebody in hospital after it turned ugly.

Two men, aged 31 and 35 had been out drinking in a night bar in Torrox on Saturday night and didn’t leave until 07.45h the next morning.

They had a different choice of vehicle to return home; one had a car and the other had an… e-scooter. Actually, the later wasn’t intent on heading home but rather with catching up on the car driver with whom he had had a heated argument just before leaving the night club.

When he caught up with him, the argument continued and then at one point the rider smashed a car window with a corkscrew. The driver wasn’t impressed and allegedly decided to run the other man over and then simply drive off.

As can be expected, having been run over, the e-Scooter rider was considerably dented and was taken to Hospital Comarcal de la Axarquía in Vélez-Málaga in a serious condition; head and neck injuries, it appears.

The policía Local, armed with pieces of the car that had broken off in the impact, tracked down the 35-year old some hours later and arrested him. After booking him, they handed him over to the Guardia Civil because the criminal offences that he would be facing come under the Penal Law Code rather than the Civil Law Code.

A quick aside, it can be confusing the difference between the responisibilties of the two police forces but the best way to explain it is like this: imagine a collision between two vehicles in the centre of town. If nobody is injured, that’s Civil Law thus the Policía Local handle it. If there are serious injuries or deaths involved, then that will come under the (Criminal) Penal Law Code, so the Guardia Civil will handle it. It can be a little more complicated than this, but that is the gist of it.

One last thing, the corkscrew might sound like a dubious weapon for attacking somebody in a car but the driver had several lesions and there was blood in the car.
