Immigrants Land in Nerja

At approximately 16.45h on Thursday a RIB with three powerful outboards came close to shore on Playa El Chucho.

On board were 30 Magreb immigrants who ran across the beach where beachgoers were sitting and lying; a contrast between two different realities coinciding in time and space.

The majority of the passengers were men in their 30/40s although there were also six minors amongst them.

The RIB didn’t beach itself but stopped just off so the passengers had to splash ashore because the person manning the craft wanted to speed off as quickly as possible.

With the RIB fast disappearing, the immigrants began to disperse through the town. In the meantime both the Guardia Civil and Policía Local began to track them down, which they did.

Some of the immigrants got as far as Playa de Calaceite in Torrox, three kilometres away, before they were caught.

Those in custody explained that they had set off in the early morning from the Rif area of the Moroccan coast.

The adults were taken directly to the Centro de Atención Temporal de Extranjeros (CATE), which is within Málaga Port, where the admininstrative process will begin for their eventual expulsion back to Morocco.
