After a car drove over the side of a flyover, it burst into flames, incinerating the young couple inside, but it was not because of the fuel tank
The road accident took place around 09.15h on Saturday the 8th when the car left the AP-7 near Mijas Golf, falling 15 metres onto the road below for reasons unknown. The couple were from San Pedro Alcántara, in Marbella.

There was one survivor from the car accident; their dog, which was found wandering nearby. The police cannot explained firstly how it survived and secondly how it was completely unhurt.
Thanks to police investigation into the accident, the reason for the detonation and the conflagration, which turned out to be because they were transporting several cylinders/canisters of Nitrous oxide (laughing gas), as they found an unexploded canister lying nearby.
This gas is used as an anaesthetic used some kinds of surgery and in baking, but it has become all the rage in parties. The gas itself is non-flammable but subjected to high temperatures it reacts like pure oxigene (Apollo I capsule disaster).
As a consequence of this discovery, the Guardia Civil are not only trying to find out how the accident happened, but also where the gas came from.
This accident coincides, more or less, with the biggest, Europe-wide bust for the illegal commercialisation of this gas, which took place in a warehouse in the La Rosa Trading Estate in Alhaurín el Grande where over 21,000 litres of the gas were found and confiscated. The police also made five arrests involving suspects of different nationalities.
