The eviction of squatters living in the Urbanización Almuñécar Hills has been stayed - the eviction process for the 27 dwellings should have begun on Thursday morning.
It was thanks to the actions of the Stop Desahucios platform. Furthermore, the affected families through court-appointed lawyers have submitted documents pertaining to their social vulnerability.
On the 28th of this month the property owners will take over the nine dwellings already cleared of squatters.
The Plataforma Stop Desahucios says that it has expressed its disposition to negotiate with the investment fund that owns the said properties.
The remaining families have said that they want to pay ‘social rent’ or for the investment fund to wait until after the summer (having concluded the higher-rent period) in order to find alternative accommodation.
They have also approached the law court dealing with the eviction for permission to return to their erstwhile homes to pick up their possessions.
The investment fund, although approached by the provincial press, has made no comment on the situation.
