Meter Maids on Strike

Many drivers will feel desolate to hear that Blue-Zone workers and tow-truck operatives will be going on strike over Corpus in the city of Granada.

GRA Tow TruckThe workers union who represent them, Comisiones Obreras, announced on Friday the 10th that there will be a series of strike actions, including protest marches during the Corpus fiestas.

The reason being is that no accord has been reached between the employers and the employees over summer, working hours.

Sr. Sebastián Marruecos, who is the Chairman of the workers’ committee, said that the full staff of 30 workers have protested over the planned summer, work schedule of 17.30h to 21.30h because “their health will suffer from working during the hottest part of the day.” They want to work straight through instead of coming back after lunch, and they also demand at least 12 hours rest between shifts.

Therefore, the said workers will carry out a partial strike and a protest march through the streets (hopefully, not in the afternoons…) starting on the 27th of May and includind the 28th and 31st for this month.

In June the affected days are the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 12th, 14th, 17th, 19th, 21st, 24th, 26th and 28th.
