Torrox River Death

The heavy rain over Easter weekend claimed the life of a foreign woman in her 60s in Torrox.

AXA Dutch Woman Swept Off in RiverThe victim was a 64-year-old Dutch citizen who had been living in a rented country house in the Río Güi area of that municipality. The river is the municipality border between El Morche (Torrox) and Lagos (Vélez-Málaga).

Her body was found on the 30th and it is believed that she had been caught out by flood water coming down the normally dry riverbed.

It appears that she tried to cross the fast-flowing river in her car in order to get home. Her body was swept four kilometres downstream to the coast. The car was found in the river still, not far from her home, some days after the discovery of her body.

It had been a local from El Morche that came across the body on the shore about 300 metres from the mouth of the river. Both the Policía Local and the Guardia Civil  soon arrived.

Finding that the body showed signs of violence, they activated the established protocol and the local Justice of the Peace authorised the removal of the body with instructions for it to be taken to the Instituto de Medicina Legal de Málaga for an autopsy.

On the 1st of April her handbag turned up on Playa El Morche so the police were able to identify the victim. Her family had reported her missing that same day of her disappearance.
